Alpine, Wyoming

Alpine, WY

Alpine, Wyoming is a town in Lincoln County with an estimated population of almost 1,400 residents. The community sits at the point where the Snake, Greys and Salt Rivers meet, an intersection of waterways that shaped settlement patterns long before modern development. Alpine was incorporated in the early 20th century and grew gradually as ranchers, outfitters and traders moved into the region.

Today, the town’s location near the Snake River Canyon and the Wyoming–Idaho border continues to influence its identity, drawing residents who value access to natural resources, mountains and open land.

The commercial district serves both residents and visitors traveling along Highway 89. Yankee Doodle’s Cafe is one of the best-known establishments, serving breakfast and lunch with a consistent local following. Its menu of pancakes, omelets, burgers and daily specials keeps it busy throughout the year. Punkins Coffee Shop operates nearby and provides espresso drinks, pastries and grab-and-go options catering to morning commuters and travelers heading toward Jackson.

Local shops maintain steady roles throughout the year. Broulim's Pharmacy sells pharmacy items, household goods, cards and seasonal merchandise that residents rely on for everyday needs. Flat Creek Saddle Shop specializes in tack, equestrian supplies and custom leather goods, serving horse owners and working ranches across the county with saddle repairs, strap replacements, equipment fittings and durable western gear used for daily riding tasks.

The community is supported by several local institutions that provide services, gathering spaces and programs used throughout the year. The Alpine Branch Library offers children’s story hours, public computers, meeting rooms and seasonal activities for families. The Civic Center hosts town meetings, banquets, craft fairs and public classes, serving as one of the main indoor venues for residents.

Several parks and outdoor areas in and around the town provide direct access to the region’s natural setting. Mountain Days Park serves as a central gathering space with open grounds used for community events and seasonal celebrations. Nearby Palisades Reservoir offers extensive shoreline access for boating, fishing and paddling, with multiple pullouts and ramps positioned around the water. Greys River Road leads to trailheads, dispersed camping areas and forest access within the Bridger-Teton National Forest, drawing hikers, hunters and off-road users throughout the year. Areas along the Snake and Salt Rivers also provide points for bank fishing, wildlife viewing and riverside walks.

The town maintains a strong connection to regional heritage through annual and recurring events. Mountain Days is one of the community’s signature summer festivals, featuring craft vendors, food stalls, competitions and demonstrations reflecting local traditions and skills. The event draws participants from across Lincoln County and neighboring Idaho towns. The Winter Jubilee brings residents together during the colder months with activities such as ice sculpting demonstrations, chili cook-offs and family-friendly contests.
